I designed and re-built this 3 bed Victorian house and incorporated a 1500mm gap between the houses in the terrace. I also added an additional floor and rear extensions.

My design was to keep the gap open all the way to the top of the second floor and retain the exposed brickwork of both external walls. I created a double height atrium above the dining area with an exposed Douglas Fir ceiling. The staircase from the existing house was moved across into the gap and I designed and built a new open-tread, white ash beam staircase that rested on square steel beams with glass landings.
